The best world

Which world do you think is the best? We could be in affluent (safe?) North America. How about in the tropics like Jamaica? Maybe a peaceful third world country like Ethiopia? Possibly you like a Communist country like Russia. A Socialist country like Italy. Will friendly Canada do? How about a peace-loving Finland or Sweden? I suppose we could make one up just to make it prosperous, safe, and equal. Is it possible?

            I just returned from Jamaica. The signs all over the place said “one love.” Bob Marley was not so much a philosopher but one song seemed to resonate. “One love.” So, what does that mean? It’s a nice to say like love, peace, and joy. Recently a rather shoddy brother of a shoddy Ontario Canada mayor named Rob Ford is running for the province leadership. His slogan is a man of the people. Really? Maybe he is a man that cares. Possibly he promotes one love.

            Back to the one love thing. Bob Marley made funky music. Saved Jamaica? No, he made nice verses to songs. Jamaica is a mess. The mix of a few rich and many, many poor riddles the countryside. The roads are a mess. The government is a mess. Economy? What economy? It was ridicules what I saw as we toured the back roads. One love has produced one big mess. Saying you’re a man of the people is one thing. Being a man of the people is another.

            The royal wedding was awesome. Those royals help support charities. Reduce poverty? Uh, not really. The royal commonwealth countries are some of the poorest in the world. Not a great track record of making a difference. They don’t even really hold the commonwealth games anymore because who could afford it. Here in Canada they have raised taxes significantly saying yes, we can change the world. We produce about 1% of carbon to the air. They have tanked our dollar, wealth, and economy saying yes, we can. Yes, we can become a debt-ridden country.

            What does God have to say? Matthew 5:37 says “But let your ‘Yes’ be ‘Yes,’ and your ‘No,’ ‘No.’ For whatever is more than these is from the evil one.” Isn’t that it! God says be honest. If you’re not then it’s probably evil, no good, bad, dishonest, and many other adjectives. People hate Gods word. They think the Bible sucks. Yet, don’t people think dishonesty sucks?

            On Facebook I like to post my life. I want to share life with others. Some people hate it. They want face book to be about anything but sharing. Like what? Ah, posting one love quotes. Praising or bashing the man of the people. Just don’t be honest and share a life. Be a secret, and don’t be accountable with a yes or no.

            They want all the guns gone in America. Will it be safer? Most of the guns were banished in Russia. Stalin had them all. Did that work? I guess in Jamaica everyone has a machete. Much better than guns. Safer too. Machetes don’t kill do they? Just ask Rwanda 1984. If bad guys get guns illegally and we can’t own one legally, then what? In 1917 Russia Stalin hired the bad guys to keep the good guys in line. Guess who had the guns?

            Oh, patrick, that’s silly. It would not be like that here. One love means we all love each other. No violence. Ah, I see. Can we do that? In history we have never done that. Somehow the recent do gooders believe we ca. oh right, Yes, we can! Hire the man of the people! Make laws and lots of laws to tell people what can be loved and what can’t. that’s freedom, love, and doing good!

            So, if the whole world is in a mess. Tell me a country that ain’t? Then who is the man of the people to save it? What set of rules and laws will do it right? Will everyone have equal rights? Will economies flourish and milk and honey runeth over? If there are no jails because we have one love, then where do the bad guys go?

            Oh, I get it! With one love we will have no bad guys. No guns. No poor. Gee, maybe we won’t need laws, jails, and pride marches. One love fixes all, it did in Jamaica. It did in Rwanda, Egypt, Russia, and many other fun-loving nations. Trump will step down and Oprah will save the nation with a woman of the people! Putin will change his heart and give rise to a cuddly Russia that helps Ukraine. You know I’m beginning to feel one love. Yes, we can! Let’s do it together! What could possibly go wrong with a great slogan. Right Bob!!!
