Why do we believe them?

Why do you believe your political leaders? Why do you believe your twitter feeds? Why do you believe the posts on Facebook? There is a ton of information out there. In the past we got information from teachers, TV, and newspapers. I looked up stuff in the encyclopedia and in other information books. A person called themselves an investigative reporter and they told us things we did not know. Is it the same crap in a different pile today?
I can’t believe I’m saying this but there was a time when Facebook and the internet were friendly. Friends chatted and felt able to speak their thoughts. We argued, laughed, and cried together in a new way. I guess they call the internet the information highway. Well that is true but the information is the problem. What was meant to bind us together has driven us apart. Gone are the days of friendly honest chat. Gone are the days of factual information.
Today, people only give a small fraction of who they are, feel, and believe. The individual attack police are everywhere. What you think, believe, and say will be used against you because the individual is dead. I am utterly amazed at society. We have come from slavery, cold wars, and the lack of information highway. We have learned from past mistakes in ghettos, concentration camps, and KKK groups. We should be in a friendly and more understanding place, yet here we stand fueling the politically correct police.
The word “They” is the key. Who are they? They say there is global warming and we believe them. They say a political leader is good or bad and we believe them. We are told organic (genetically modified foods) are better by “They.” In your heart admit it, you believe “They” without a shred of truth, knowledge, or understanding of the issue. If they say it then it must be true, but who are they? I feel we have become lazy. Instead of finding out like an investigative reporter. We have given ourselves over to “They.” They tell us what is right. They tell us what we should believe. With the internet on their side we believe anything “They” say.
What does God have to say about “They?” Jesus rambles on in Matthew about the authorities and what they believe. He said to beware of them. Jesus even went so far as to say that we should listen to the words but not live the lives they lead. In a nut shell we can learn something from anything, but following another human being is reckless. God mentions in Proverbs that a fool follows the smooth words, and it leads to hell. This is a warning that we have never listened to ever in the vast expanse of time. History shows that we are truly lemmings. Willing to follow “They” right of any cliff “They” lead us to.
This is not rocket science. Hitler had a nation follow him. Friends turned into enemies in a single night in Rwanda in 1984. Imagine playing soccer with friends and the next day your hacking them and their families to bits with a machete. Maybe the hearts of people are darker than we will admit. I am your friend and we share pleasantries on the internet as long as I play by the rules. Never talk about minorities. Never talk about social tags like gay, black, or native. Political lines have fallen under anti something over “We the people.” Your either in or out. “They” tell us who is in.
Years ago I watched a movie called the Wiz. This is an all African American movie based on the Wizard OF Oz. In Oz they followed the Wizard by doing whatever he said was right. The book 1984 tells of big government rewriting history and telling the people what to think. Information in those fictional ideas come from reality. Don’t believe me? The internet is where we get our opinions by what we read and post. People post un-factual hatred towards others hourly. Are you shocked by false information or are you too lazy to care what is true?
The ways of the past seem so medieval. We are smarter, more compassionate, and righteous that ever before. The way our ancestors did things are being fixed right before our eyes by “They.” “They” know we are lazy. I bet “They” know we are willing to be stupid. The other day I posted a fact that was true. People spewed hatred towards me because they did not believe the fact. I bet they had changed the truth in their hearts. Are we really there after all those years? Are we willing to change the truth because we want another answer?

God says were sinners and going to hell if we don’t believe in Jesus. People scream out that all good people go to heaven because they believe it. Does the factual truth matter? Does it matter if God is right? Black people can call black people black but a white guy can’t: is that being politically correct towards your own race? We can call straight people homophobic if they dislike being gay, but it’s ok for gay people to call straight people names? I am disheartened that we have not learned and changed. I fear that we still would kill our friends in the morning if given a chance. I fear in my heart that chance is coming sooner than we think.
