Do we medically care?
Do we medically
care. I know that Canada is graded constantly by its medical care around the
world. Never has this country ranked high in the level of medical attention.
Doctors and nurses leave this country all the time for greener pastures.
Medically it pays to leave for America or other places. On the other hand, some
countries seem to have variations of how hospitals are done. Should it be pay
as you go or should the government provide a certain amount of free care to its
citizens?
The rub of it all is level of care.
I always tell my children that nothing is free. If they call it free then
beware of the hidden agenda. Is there a hidden agenda to Canadian healthcare if
it’s free? Well that depends on who you talk to. They always say that Americans
incur huge bills for any care they receive. Is that true? Here in Canada it
appears the government incurs huge bills for the care we receive. I do know
that the officials running the system benefit massively from exuberantly high wages,
buyouts, and constant restructure.
I did have to use the American
medical system once. It might have been the best care I have ever received.
Lucky for me I had insurance. I was treated by several Canadians down there too.
There are horror stories all the time in Canada about the lack of quality care.
I suppose if it’s free then it’s cheap. Hey, I’d be the first to admit that
cheap has a level of buyer beware. Is the staff cheap, medical equipment cheap,
and the facilities cheap? I have read from time to time that they might pay
more but receive more in America.
Other countries have a partial pay
as you go. Some things are covered and other things are not. I just came from
Grand Turk where the medical costs 25 dollars for whatever you need. They are a
little annoyed because it used to be free. Well 25 bucks in the middle of
nowhere is ok in my books. How many quality doctors live in Grand Turk? I know
a phycologist who works in Canada and Nassau Bahamas year round. I bet she does
it for more than just because it’s a free trip to a tropical place. I bet it
pays.
What does God have to say about free
medical care? I bet you’d say that God never said anything. Well at times we
get a hint about God and medical stuff. He says pay a fair wage. He says give
fair work. Jesus healed many but he did tell one fella to be good or something
far worse might happen. What does that mean? Much of what God promotes centers
around the heart. A good heart seems to breed good health. Jesus always said he
could heal physical ailments but he only helps the heart if we ask.
There was a correlation to faith and
health. Those that tried hard to seek Jesus seemed to find what they were
looking for. Is our medical system a place we can seek the proper care? You
could say yes but what if it was not free? What if it cost? Some provinces pay
a nominal fee for health care (around 40 bucks?). Grand Turk pays 25. In
America you might pay a lot. Some say that if you drink or smoke then you
should pay more. It is true that overweight, smoking, and drinking, patients
have more problems. However, some people just have problems. Who should pay
what?
Recently a mother ran into problems
with the level of care in my home town. She expected more. If it’s free, then did
she expect more for less. The problem is that we pay taxes to own the health
care system here in Canada. Yet, our system does not believe it owes us
anything because it’s free. Cheap means you get cheap care. The best of the
best care givers are not here. We don’t go to a doctor like those went to
Jesus. Yes, we know that both can heal, but there is a difference. In one
instance a man asked Jesus if he is willing. In Canada, we tell the medical
institutions that they better be willing for free.
I am nervous about paying like
America. I am nervous about going to cheap care in Canada. I have visited the
top hospital in Calgary and trust me Beruit might have better care. That was
nuts, there were beds in the halls for crying out loud. We demand because it’s
our right as Canadians. We demand because it’s our tax money. We demand because
we think were entitled to free good medical care. The system demands that we
relax because it’s cheap labor. In the meantime, there is a dance between the entitled
and philosophical ideology. We expect rather than feel grateful for what were
offered for free.
