Fat chick VS Stick chick
I
love all that musician Megan Trainor is about. Her talent to write great songs
impresses me. Megan’s stance on being bigger than Stick chick is fine. I am
glad she believes in herself beyond appearance. Then comes the bad news. The
American Surgeon General has pleaded with the people to exercise. He believes
we are in an epidemic (over used word) of obesity. Doesn’t this seem like a
terrible disconnect between young people and the older generation?
Maybe this disconnect is between
different things than I think. Do people really think being overweight is
healthy and bad for you? Do people think being a Stick chick is healthy and bad
for you? Maybe the real problem is what we want over what is healthy. It’s fine
that Taylor Swift is skinny. It is equally fine that Megan Trainor is big boned
(for lack of better words). I think they are both pretty and talented. I love their
music equally regardless of their size. The question posed by the Surgeon General
is: who is healthy?
If Megan Trainor is naturally bigger
is she in the right size range and healthy. The same could be said for Taylor
Swift. In reality eating right and getting some exercise is what is really
healthy. The scale does not tell the whole story. As I see it the problem is
really in our brains. Some of us think Stick chick is hot and fat chick is not.
Some of us believe we can be overweight and that is ok. Equally Stick chick and
anorexic might be dangerous. What a paradox.
What does God have to say about
weight? In 1 Corinthians 3:16-17 it says “Do
you not know that you are God's temple and that God's Spirit dwells in you? If
anyone destroys God's temple, God will destroy him. For God's temple is holy,
and you are that temple.” It means we are to take care of the bodies we
have. Does God say eat healthy? Sure, but he also says be wise. God’s word
talks about fasting but it’s only for spiritual understanding rather than less
food. Paul says wine is good for an upset tummy. On the other hand Paul asks us
not to get drunk on wine. What God promotes is moderation. That goes for Fat
chick and Stick chick.
We are promoting (in the media) to love
ourselves even if were fat . We should love ourselves regardless of our size. Loving
ourselves is all fine and dandy if it’s healthy. Maybe you don’t care about the
healthy part. The Surgeon General seems to believe we don’t care, but we
should. Is it racist if Stick chick outlives Fat chick? Is it racist if Stick
chick dies of malnutrition before Fat chick? What if middle of the road normal nerdy
chick with tats outlives them both? Megan can promote loving herself but I hope
she is healthy inside too. Taylor promotes being healthy in the heart just like
Megan but I hope she is healthy inside too.
We have made it Fat chick VS Stick
chick. I think its nuts to think most guys don’t prefer Stick chick. Duh, sex
still sells. However, bigger girls like Megan Trainor and Kim Kardashian are beautiful
too. Women and men need to just be healthy and quite picking sides. Stick chick
is cool. Fat chick is cool. Let’s encourage both of them to be healthy inside
and out. That does not mean they need to become the other. The Surgeon General suggested
that we walk for 2 ½ hours a week minimum. It’s just good for the soul as for
the body.
They say we should strive to make
communities safer to walk in. We should get to know our neighbors. The Surgeon
General asks us to get out and be active. Fat chick and Stick chick could
conceivably work together. Maybe healthy communities and healthy people are
connected? Maybe a healthy spiritual and physical side is connected? Saying you’re
ok with being unhealthy is plain stupid. We found a man about my age dead on a
trail one day. His wife was just finding out his heart was not healthy. That is
a tragedy. He was more the Fat guy than Stick guy, but did you know that dead
unhealthy people are still dead regardless of their size?
