I Unapologize

Carrie Underwood has a song called unapologize. It’s about always saying you are sorry for everything without really meaning it. Yes I know her song is about not expressing her love but go with me on this one. These days I would categorize our current generation as the apology generation. In years gone by we had generation X and the baby boomers. This new and improved generation class of 2015 loves to apologize.
This also goes the other way. This generation wants an apology. For some reason saying your sorry is the in thing. The problem as I see it is our human nature. How often does a criminal give themselves up and apologize before they are caught? Right, you are very smart, it never happens. Our human nature says were sorry because we got caught. Our human nature is sorry we got caught. In a strange way, deep inside, we honestly would unapologize if we could.
You think you are not addicted to the apology? Well our Alberta Premier said how he feels about the economy. Some are calling for an apology. A Microsoft female exec had to apologize for her comments. NFL football stars apologize for their private actions. Geesh, even a politician crossing the floor in the House of Commons is demanded an apology. There is a book called 50 shades of Gray. They make a movie of it and the actors are demanded an apology for playing the roles. We are truly addicted to the apology these days.
What does God have to say about the apology? Well this is an interesting topic. I don’t believe God ever demanded an apology. Throughout the Bible Gods pleads with us to return to him. He says over and over “You will be my people and I will be your God.” Even on the cross Jesus says “Forgive them Father because they do not know what they do.” Where is the apology from heaven or too heaven? The thing with God is perseverance, honor, compassion and more words like that. God is more interested in the heart rather than the apology.
In the end we are the same human race we always have been. It looks good to apologize. How often do people come out after a murder and say publicly they forgive the killer. I will bet the farm they forgive outside but inside is another matter. It takes time to forgive but you will never forget. Why must apologies be in public? Can’t a private apology work? God says in private, with the door closed, to pray to him. Jesus says many times “do not tell others” about his miracles. Yet we love the spotlight of an apology.
I’m sorry (Ha) folks but you will not get an apology for calling this generation out. Your public parades and crying will not convince me your heart is in the right place. You are human and we still do what humans do. Our pride is way bigger than you think.  Why do you really think they call the gay and lesbian parade a “Pride parade”? It is because those people need to expose their secrets in public. Where are the heterosexual parades? Why must the Politician say he or she is sorry when they clearly meant what they said? Sports stars and Hollywood actors are continually apologizing for something. Why do we always hear about it in the media?

Are you a hurt generation or a spoiled generation? At work, you are hired to work to make that business money. I unapologize, but they hired a worker, not you. You can be replaced. They don’t have an obligation to accommodate you. Sure we all are special. We all deserve to be loved. I believe that but our actions are human and normal. An apology is good but it’s “Your heart” the people want more than the words you say. I’d like to apologize for offending anyone but I guess later after a heart to heart with myself I’d have to unapologize for the way I feel about you.
