Working
Sometimes
people say “it’s not working.” Other times they retort “this is working well.”
So, which is it? I guess that depends. I like using the term working for
several things. Work, is something we do. Is it having to or wanting to? We
work and we eat. You don’t work you don’t eat. It kind of works that way. Yes,
I know some people are rich and don’t have to work. Yet, they have to work at
relationships, business maybe, or being nice. Is work working?
Work is not really work to me. I
love my job. I think of work as a necessary thing. We need to have busy hands.
Being idol is no good. Our minds need the workout too. I know getting up too
early is not fun, but the benefits of work are really good. You get a healthy
mind, body, and soul. I say soul because it’s good to create. It’s nice to
serve others. To bring home money so the family can eat is a good thing too.
I know so many people who think work
is a bad thing. They are always looking for ways to cheat work. I feel they
work harder looking for ways not to work. Listen, nothing is free. Bob Dylan
said we all have to serve someone or something. At work, you make friends. At
work, you grow to understand more. You might find out more about yourself than
sitting at home. I think working on work is enjoyable. It’s better to be busy.
Working out is fun too. To make your
body work well is good for the mind, body, and soul too. Yes, it’s hard work.
We get sore and tired by working out. I find that later I feel rejuvenated.
Working out can be fun. Again, you can make friends. Being healthy is a really
good thing. Setting goals to look better and feel better is great. Set goals
for new clothes, a healthy diet, or just to make the mirror smile.
What does God have to say about
work? Proverbs 16 says idle hands are the
devils workshop. It’s just true. People who plan on skipping work run into
hell most of the time. People who are lazy go through hell. Working well is not
just godly. It’s a place where good things happen. Our mind is at work. Our
attitude is elevated. God knows that. He made us like that. Even in Eden we
were to tend the garden. Heaven is not a five-star vacation.
If you say you’re going to work on
it then work on it. If you believe it will work then work to make it a reality.
Do what must be done. A military man from world war one was asked why he
fought. He said it had to be done to win. They had to work, they had to make
it. Why? For their own pride and the pride of others. Canada has just had its
150th birthday. That came on the backs of workers. That is not a just
happenstance.
In the book 1984, George Orwell
depicted people listening to the winners of a lottery. It was a way to escape
the dreary life they led. The government fabricated this lottery to inspire the
people to play and work for the winnings. That is not why we work. We don’t
work to drink beer on the weekend. Is that life’s pursuit? We don’t work to
spend money gambling. Is that life’s pursuit? Work is so much more than that.
Divorce would be lower if we
dedicated ourselves to working on things. Production would be higher if we
dedicated ourselves to working well. I believe health would be better if we
worked out more. I also believe things work out better when we try. Wishing,
hoping, and gambling on life’s pursuits will only be a gamble. The sure thing
is with your two hands. It’s with your two feet. This week, why not try working
on using them more than fate.
