In tune with the Bible

Matthew 246-8 “And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars; see that you are not alarmed; for this must take place, but the end is not yet. 7 For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom, and there will be famines and earthquakes in various places: 8 all this is but the beginning of the birth pangs.”
It would be easy for me to quote a ton of Bible scriptures and spout the end is near. People have been doing that for centuries. Yet, here we are still waiting. Why are we waiting? I bet that deep inside we know things are not well in this world. We know that the way we think and do things is not the way it should be. It’s the underlying feeling that the other shoe has to drop at some time.
Oh brother there some dumb ass Christian goes again screaming the end is near. Maybe, but things are not well. In Canada the current government is breaking down every restrictive law we had as a society: Suicide is legal, prostitution, drugs, and more. Whether they should have been outlawed to begin with is another story. Society deemed those things important but today they don’t care. From the eyes of people in the past, this is a very sick world.
Freedom of speech is gone. Facebook is so quiet now. People are afraid to be themselves for fear of the authorities. Political correctness is becoming a branch of the government. It’s interesting that they wanted to keep church and state apart to protect freedom. The governments of today are taking liberties away one law at a time. Cameras are being posted all over. To have an opinion is to be labeled phobic. Good TV and movies have gone south in a hurry. It’s all trash now.
The weather is so bad that global warming is taken seriously without a shred of proof. We’re not stupid, something has gone wrong in the weather. There have been planes disappearing, earthquakes, famines, and strange new diseases. Terrorism is still alive and well. Is it safe at night? Is the political realm in trouble? Give me a good leader these days. All over the world are fires, floods, and heat waves. Something has gone terribly wrong.
So what does God have to say about this predicament. Well in that same chapter in Matthew Jesus warns “Woe to those who are pregnant and to those who are nursing infants in those days.” What God is telling us in the Bible is that bringing up children in the bad times will be bad. Our children are the new target of special interest groups. New manifestos and documents have been forged to change the teaching of the children. They are to focus on sexual rights as children rather than academics. To watch a new generation, grow up and have zero clue as to their profession is sad. We are going to lose a whole generation of professionals. Yes, they will be free to explore their desires but not the world as Columbus and Magellan once did. Those days are gone.
Today we focus on the inside. What sex do you think you are? We think fat should be embraced. We think tattoos, drugs, and smut on TV is the new world order. I find it interesting that the homeless, women’s safety, and child abuse are silent these days. Gone is the focus on the most vulnerable. The new vulnerable are the few but very powerful politically correct minorities. The other things in the news like famines and earthquakes are just stories because they are becoming so common.
The funny (no so funny) part. We elected governments that want to please the people. They are giving us everything we desire. The funny part is the world we live in is not playing ball. Governments are racking up huge deficits to pay for our pleasures. In the meantime, fires, wars, and economic problems are straining the finances to the brink of disaster. It’s interesting watching the leaders hesitate at fixing troubling times. That money was meant to increase our pleasure not our safety.

We will continue to struggle. The dance between having what you desire and what is right will always make bad dance partners. Society and the earth are out of tune. Governments and leadership are bad music. Interestingly enough Jesus gave no answer. He said these things will happen. I can say it certainly seems something is happening. Is the end near? I dunno but even if it’s just bad times. Who has the balls to save us? The Bible appears surreal to me as the insights from thousands of years ago play themselves out day by day. I think the answer is clear in the song “it ain’t our own desires at the cost of everything.”
