Why bother Jesus
Why bother having Easter weekend? It’s just a
question. I believe in Jesus and God the Father, but who else really does? I
was listening to a radio station mock what they’re doing this weekend. One guy
sarcastically said “Church”. They all laughed and continued to talk about all
the important sports games this weekend. Jesus is not important. Oh sure those
hidden inside churches think Jesus is important, but I hate to burst their
secret bubbles (clicks), but to the real world, Jesus does not exist.
I love those who say we should get rid of this
Christian Easter holiday. Listen dumb ass, it’s time off, who cares why. My point
to the church is this: people would rather work than take any time off for
Jesus. They hate, loath, despise, and basically don’t care about you (the
church) and you’re Jesus. I bet many don’t really know why Easter is a holiday.
Many don’t even care or know why Remembrance or Victoria Day exists (Canadian
reference here). Oh right Remembrance Day is Black Friday weekend now. Victoria
Secret gave us the May long weekend right?
It’s been a long time since we made
up a holiday. Jesus died over 2000 years ago. Queen Victoria died in 1901 (I looked
it up on Wikipedia). People argue if Jesus existed. Will people do the same for
Queen Victoria in a thousand years? In this country we have people who come
here to be Canadian. They want our traditions and freedoms. Those who were born
here want to rid us of the vary things non-Canadians covet. No religion and
scrap the holidays. Maybe the holidays represent freedom, safety, honor, and remembering
on Wikipedia.
What does God have to say about this
touchy subject? In 2 Kings Chapter 22, we find a very interesting discovery. King
Josiah is 8 years old. It says he follows the ways of the Lord. It also says
that there were churches and priests of God. The best part is that all this
time they worshipped and played church without the Bible. This chapter says they
found the Bible hidden in the church. I find that is exactly where we are
today. We play church, we do traditions like Easter and Christmas, but it’s
without the Bible.
Why bother going to church? Many churches
have distorted the Bible to mean just what they want it to. That’s why we have
a pile (and I do mean pile) of denominations. That means kiddies that all Christians
think the Bible means something different than it originally did. In many ways
we say we believe but it’s been too long to know what that means. Who is Jesus
and what is he to any of us? Yes I want people to know Jesus but what do I tell
them? Which denomination is correct? The real Jesus in the Bible is not welcome
in most churches today.
The cool part of 2 Kings 22 is what
happened once they found the Bible. The King (who is 8) realized that the
country and church are worshipping God all wrong. Everyone was distorting the
real view of God. Josaih tore down all the false idols and teachings and began
to read the real Bible. The country and kingdom began to understand why they
had church, holidays, and God.
The present world does not know any more what
religion is. Why have a holiday for anything that has happened in the past? Why
do we have holidays again? Oh right, it’s to honor something important in the
past that helped us get where we are today. Is that important? Is it ok to just
have a weekend off for something we don’t understand? Will we lose that time
off if its meaning goes away? Don’t most of us work on those holidays now
anyway?
The trouble is that Jesus is lumped
in with the Queen and wars. We remember they happened (Wikipedia again), but we
have no meaning to it. I understand that it’s been too long. My goodness 9/11
was a while ago. Learning from our history is helpful. Is Jesus just a history
lesson? In reality, I find humans are forced to repeat the mistakes of the
past. We’re not that smart folks. Jesus does mean something more than you
think. One day it might be you finding a Bible and reading it. Oh and in that
day (maybe Easter weekend) things will change as they did all those years ago
for 8 year old king Josaih.
