The New Morality
I saw a Facebook post the other day that made me
laugh. It showed a picture of a little boy having a sip of his dad’s beer. The post
said that we are so far better than those days. The tragic things kids went
through at the hands of their parents. I grew up in a time period that thought
staying out late was bad. Swearing and wearing tattoos was bad. The morality I
was given is different than the one give to kids today.
Today we are trying to legalize prostitution, drugs,
and many other things. I suppose we feel that the society of the past was
holding us back. In my youth they told us prostitution was bad and drugs hurt
people. Today they say that is a lie. The real kicker in this new morality is
the thought that it can be allowed because we know how to handle it better than
the father of the past did. Good luck with that one.
I shudder at the thought of kids growing up thinking
weed is not trouble. I shudder that the thought of kids relying on high caffeine
drinks like Red Bull. They say we got it all wrong about what affects us and
what does not. My question to the youth is this: who are they? Who is really
telling you it’s ok to be a sex professional? The government is trying to find
new ways to attract the youth to gambling. Gaming sights are going after the
computer generation with sex ads. They say we are smarter and free like never
before. The new morality is a better morality.
What does God have to say about morality? Well in
the books of Samuel we are introduced to a tall man named Saul. The people
wanted a King so they could be just like the other kingdoms. God said don’t but
he let the people decide. King Saul took the Israelites down a dark path and
before long he was dead but the new morality remained. That kingdom never
recovered. God did not order them to keep his morality. He just warned them
that it might not be the best choice (Father knows best) to choose theirs.
Today we have the same arguments with this new
morality generation. They scoff at the thought of Father knows best. We are
computer savvy. We have science and technology. Fathers of the past had
farming, God, and righteousness. What a crock of something they say. The thought
toady is that we are smarter and know more about what is right and wrong. I hear
commercials fighting to legalize everything they can. I also hear commercials
warning that we don’t know everything about those things. The new morality
looks just like the old morality. The difference being it’s protecting a
different pile.
Is alcohol costly to society? Is prostitution
harmful to women? Is staying out late at night dangerous to kids? So many
questions and so few answers. The new morality says don’t let your kids lose at
anything because it might harm their little hearts. On the other side these
kids are free to drink Red Bulls, receive drugs, and be solicited by the Porn
trade in High school Job fairs. The new morality says we are training our kids
to handle these petty things.
It won’t take a rocket scientist to see morality
taking a turn in 20 years. The kids of today will be the messed up parents of
tomorrow. They will see a new morality. They will complain and dump on the
parents of the past. In the years to come new money will be needed to deal with
this dysfunctional generation as their new morality takes hold. What is
interesting will be the swing I already see happening. Parent groups are
questioning the teaching in schools. Protests are beginning to rise over the
cost of health care. The new morality has a cost that the drink makers and government
gaming commissions don’t care about. They offer freedom from your parents and
you can’t put a price on that.
I guess I will leave you with a few questions to ponder.
Why is sexual orientation important? Is it because “they” say it is? Is marijuana safe compared to beer? “They” say it is. It’s cleaner and safer for girls to
have legalized brothels in the sex trade. Who are “They” that say it is? It’s
better to have a government run the gambling industry. “They” say it’s better
to keep it controlled and safe. In my day “They” were the bad crowds. “They” were
the dark places and bad ideas. In the new morality “They” are to be trusted. Who
are “They”? They are those with the most to gain and the most to lose by what
they chose you to love.
