The Public money whore
The other day a friend challenged me that sports stars
and their owners are greedy. Is that really true? I mean is it ok that a worker
gets 1% of the total revenue from their effort? It comes down to philosophy of
money. The poor don’t create business. Rich people do. So, the rich pay workers
just a mere fraction of what their worth. We seem ok with that. Doctors heal
and make a great wage. A teacher trains a child and makes very little compared
to a doctor. Why the disparity? Yet, an owner of a sports league is offered a
billion dollars to run their league. The players are supposed to work for
minimum wage because it’s not right for them to make more than we think there
worth.
The question is perception. If I offer you a billion
dollars to run a sports business, should you say no? Technically, you should not
covet the money. Technically, you should keep as much as you can if the
business does well. Why give more than 1% to the sports worker? What about the
popcorn seller? What about the usher? Maybe there should be a law against
giving a billion dollars to anyone. Over and over we go arguing the validity of
the sports owner and star. The public whore in the corner is waiting for her
turn to speak.
She stands up with her hand held firmly by her public
curator. He won’t let go. She winces in pain at the tight grip, yet she must
speak on his behalf. She gazes across the room at all the kids wanting to play
sports. She gives a wink to all the special interest groups who want a piece of
her. Yet, she knows her place. She knows the heart of the curator. What he misunderstood
is his grip. Public money is a whore for a reason. She knows how to smooth talk
and use sleight of hand to get what she wants. Everyone in the room wants a
piece of her and she knows it with a sly grin. Lust fuels the whore.
What does God have to say about money. There is a great
section in the Bible where Jesus is standing in the court of the synagogue.
It’s a Jewish church. He is observing everything. There are people selling
stuff for gain. There is cheating of wealth. An old woman is giving while a
fancy dresses religious ruler is taking. This is God’s house yet, there is
little of God in it. I believe this section of the Bible is there to remind us
that money owns us if we let it. A church, the poor, and the entitled all need
the bitch. Yet, in the wrong hands she does not care who owns her. Jesus saw
that. He commented on that. Public money just does what she does in the hearts
of all involved. Jesus saw that too.
All of a sudden, the curator is standing alone. Somehow
and some way the whore slipped his grip. She is courting the private agendas in
the corner. She is flirting with the parents of the sports programs in the hall.
She touches the libraries, bridges, and hospitals just how they like it. They
are putty in her soft hands. Her smooth lips and soft talk has them all captivated
and wanting. Everyone loves to have the public money whore on their side. How
does she do it? We own her, yet she owns us. We know it, the curator knows it,
and the kids are being trained to know it.
What does she really want? I suspect it’s to be used and
abused. That’s what a good whore does. She is hot for glamour. She is hot for
love. The pedestal awaits for her feet to ascend. We will praise her, adore
her, and worship her. Throughout the night, the curator is trying to grab her
hand. To maintain his grip. It’s tough because the hospital and parks have her
attention. The kids surround her and it looks right. Well offer her more to get
her attention. Well court her anyway because we have a chance of standing with
her in the end. Who is the whore? Who is the pimp? Who really is the winner?
I could have used kinder words. I could have been holy
and clean with my thoughts. That is what a good pastor does. He stands in the
halls of justice. He wears the right clothes. He says the right things. He
parades the right agendas in front of him. The holy man champions the sick and
praises the poor. He desires to use public money the right way. Yet, at night,
in bed he reaches across the covers to the whore waiting for him. She is his
for a time. He is the curator, the pastor, and man of the people. She knew that
and that is why she is there. He is the perfect cover for her lust. A whore
only goes to where the whore is wanted. In the bed of the righteous public man.
